CCM Ethics - Take your test for 2 Ethics Credits Now!

If you have a CCM you will need to make sure to take courses providing Ethics CEUs as well.  The basic objective of The Code of Professional Conduct for Case Managers is to protect the public interest.  Accordingly, the Code consists of Principles, Rules of Conduct, and Standards for Professional Conduct, as well as the CCMC Procedures for Processing Complaints. If you haven't visited lately, here is the most recent information on the new ethics requirement for renewing your CCM directly from the CCMC Website:

CE UPDATE: Ethics Related CE Required for CCM Renewal

The Commission for Case Manager Certification (The Commission) requires 80 CEs every five years to renew the prestigious CCM credential. It is part of our work at the Commission to advance the ongoing education and training of board-certified case managers and professional case managers through certification, renewal and continuing education.
It is the role of board-certified case managers to protect the public interest and the rights and dignity of clients, and call for honor, integrity, objectivity and fidelity in case management practice.  With that in mind, the Commission will be now be requiring CCMs to obtain Ethics related continuing education credits for recertification.
When will the requirement for Ethics related CEs begin?
The requirement to provide Ethics related CE credits will go into effect beginning with those CCMs who are due to renew in May, 2016.
How many Ethics CEs will be required?
  • CCMs expiring in 2016 – total of two (2) Ethics CEs will be required for renewal.
  • CCMs expiring in 2017 – total of four (4) Ethics CEs will be required for renewal.
  • CCMs expiring 2018 and after – total of eight (8) Ethics CEs will be required or the equivalent of 10% of total CEs required for renewal.
What options are there to earn the Ethics CEs?
There are a number of sources for CCMs to acquire the CEs needed to renew their CCM credential. In addition, the Ethics CE offerings below are already pre-approved for CCM CEs:
  • The CCMC PACE™ Provider Directory contains continuing education courses from multiple providers that have already received pre-approval from CCMC.  Currently, there are over 160 Ethics related continuing education credits listed in the PACE Provider Directory. You can search the directory to find Ethics related courses here:  http://ccmcertification.org/ccmc_certification.
  • The Commission’s Case Management Body of Knowledge® (CMBOK®) contains 7 CEs in Ethics.  A total of 75 CEs are currently included in the subscription to CMBOK.   For more information, visithttp://www.cmbodyofknowledge.com. CMBOK CEs are also pre-approved.
  • The Commission’s New World Symposium™, being held Jan 21-23, 2016 in Las Vegas, will include Ethics related sessions that have been pre-approved for continuing education credit.  To learn more, visithttp://symposium.ccmcertification.org/program/conference-schedule.
  • Coming Soon:  Continuing education credit(s) will be available FREE to CCMs based on the CCMC Code of Professional Conduct.  Look for more information prior to the spring renewal application window, scheduled for March 2016 through May 2016.

FYI:

I handle Delmarva Peninsula and the area immediately around the Chesapeake Bay, I work well with both defense and plaintiff attorneys and can handle any file in Baltimore or DC if requested – I never bill more than 2 hours travel.

Pat Highcove and Dane Crook are both based in Maryland and each have over 20 years of experience and excellent reputations with both defense and plaintiff attorneys.  Primarily they handle Baltimore and DC, but can do parts of Western MD, Southern PA, Northern VA, and Western NJ if needed.

We also are partnering with Kim Sellers, a nurse case manager based in Mechanicsburg,  PA who covers most of Pennsylvania and Maryland!  She has tons of CAT experience in addition to routine medical management.
