Suggested job search schedule

Sunday:  Review and apply to jobs online and/or in classifieds (If your local paper comes out on a different day, start this schedule from that day and change the below days accordingly…)
Monday:  Call those ads that request a call and obtain directions/additional information for ads asking to apply in person.  Start with the jobs that you are most interested in and spend extra time to tailor your résumé and/or cover letter.
Tuesday: Apply in person, return calls of employers who called, attend any job development / training meetings, review job seeking skills material online/participate in groups
Wednesday:  Cold calls and practice interviewing, other job search skills training.  Think about the openings you have identified so far and plan to follow up with them at an appropriate interval.
Thursday:  follow up calls with any outstanding employers, job service, job search from previous week
Friday:  Networking – call friends and identify employers who are hiring.  Call and follow up with Staffing agencies registered with.
Don’t forget to check major employer/government job boards and checking jobs through the job service and staffing agencies AT LEAST weekly.

Colors for cancer

I went into Coastal Salon yesterday to get the works before driving to upstate New York to see my family.                                                                                     Michelle, my stylists had a pile of these sections she had knitted and will piece together to make a blanket for one of her customers who has cancer.                                                                                                                          When I asked about the color (since it isn't pink), she informed me that pink is for Breast cancer.  There are different colors for different cancers.  Huh!  Who knew?                                                                                        I'm not surprised that Michelle took the time to find this out (you can look the colors up here  http://www.choosehope.com/category/by-cancer-color-cancer-type )or that she spends her few available minutes knitting a gift for a customer.  That is just the way she is.                                                                                       Her shop isn't large and she doesn't have a bevy of beauticians working for her, but it is full of caring.  You couldn't even call it customer service, that would be demeaning. Caring.  Yup that's the right word.                                                                                                             If you are looking for a new stylist, stop by!  Even if you aren't, stop by and say "Hello!"  You may not end up with her (I and a few other customers are in her books for the next three years...literally). But,  you will be treated like family by daughter, Joyce, or Jaison.
They are colloquial, friendly, occasionally loud, but they always care.

Use a Job Search Schedule to keep yourself from losing it

Sticking to a job search schedule can really help you get results from your job search.  One of the biggest complaints I hear from job seekers is that they get little or no positive feedback for all of the time they spend job searching.  They typically are spending their valuable time applying online to positions...only!

This can be very disheartening, to say the least!  Not only do employers not often provide positive feedback - often they don't even have an auto-responder.  A job seeker may think their resume is being reviewed when it might never have been received.

Follow-up is a great way to get both positive feedback and ensure your resume has been received. You may even get to schedule an interview. Varying your job search activities will keep you from feeling as if you are hitting your head against the wall on a daily basis.  Click the link above to download your free Job Search Schedule.

Dr. Rosenblatt's slides from the JTF Conference 2016

Many attendees asked specifically if they could receive copies of the presentation given by Dr. Rosenblatt, who had everyone on their feet and moving around!  He was gracious enough to share them.  Thanks again for attending the 2016 Maryland JTF on Injured Workers Annual Conference! See you next year.

CCM Ethics - Take your test for 2 Ethics Credits Now!

If you have a CCM you will need to make sure to take courses providing Ethics CEUs as well.  The basic objective of The Code of Professional Conduct for Case Managers is to protect the public interest.  Accordingly, the Code consists of Principles, Rules of Conduct, and Standards for Professional Conduct, as well as the CCMC Procedures for Processing Complaints. Download  The Code of Professional Conduct for Case Managers.  Take the test and complete an evaluation form for two ethics credits!  Click the image below to download.

If you haven't visited lately, here is the most recent information on the new ethics requirement for renewing your CCM directly from the CCMC Website:

CE UPDATE: Ethics Related CE Required for CCM Renewal

The Commission for Case Manager Certification (The Commission) requires 80 CEs every five years to renew the prestigious CCM credential. It is part of our work at the Commission to advance the ongoing education and training of board-certified case managers and professional case managers through certification, renewal and continuing education.
It is the role of board-certified case managers to protect the public interest and the rights and dignity of clients, and call for honor, integrity, objectivity and fidelity in case management practice.  With that in mind, the Commission will be now be requiring CCMs to obtain Ethics related continuing education credits for recertification.
When will the requirement for Ethics related CEs begin?
The requirement to provide Ethics related CE credits will go into effect beginning with those CCMs who are due to renew in May, 2016.
How many Ethics CEs will be required?
  • CCMs expiring in 2016 – total of two (2) Ethics CEs will be required for renewal.
  • CCMs expiring in 2017 – total of four (4) Ethics CEs will be required for renewal.
  • CCMs expiring 2018 and after – total of eight (8) Ethics CEs will be required or the equivalent of 10% of total CEs required for renewal.
What options are there to earn the Ethics CEs?
There are a number of sources for CCMs to acquire the CEs needed to renew their CCM credential. In addition, the Ethics CE offerings below are already pre-approved for CCM CEs:
  • The CCMC PACE™ Provider Directory contains continuing education courses from multiple providers that have already received pre-approval from CCMC.  Currently, there are over 160 Ethics related continuing education credits listed in the PACE Provider Directory. You can search the directory to find Ethics related courses here:  http://ccmcertification.org/ccmc_certification.
  • The Commission’s Case Management Body of Knowledge® (CMBOK®) contains 7 CEs in Ethics.  A total of 75 CEs are currently included in the subscription to CMBOK.   For more information, visithttp://www.cmbodyofknowledge.com. CMBOK CEs are also pre-approved.
  • The Commission’s New World Symposium™, being held Jan 21-23, 2016 in Las Vegas, will include Ethics related sessions that have been pre-approved for continuing education credit.  To learn more, visithttp://symposium.ccmcertification.org/program/conference-schedule.
  • Coming Soon:  Continuing education credit(s) will be available FREE to CCMs based on the CCMC Code of Professional Conduct.  Look for more information prior to the spring renewal application window, scheduled for March 2016 through May 2016.
